Is it possible to secure surfing?
The foundation of secure surfing idea is indeed an old idea, it’s just as old as the browsing and/or surfing activities itself. To put it real simple, fast and interesting, there are several ways that people can do in order to stop themselves from becoming the victim(s) of all those malicious guys on the Internet. I have been talked about some of them within my presentation back in Hacker’s Day event (Which the presentation sheet will be given here soon), here is my little list of being-hacked prevention tips:
- Using two or more browsers in order to surf, or make it VMwared.
- Use all the latest patches given by vendors of each browsers, and disable some features like Flash/Java when you visit suspicious sites.
- Keep on using NoScript, eBay Toolbar, Netcraft Toolbar, etc as your add-ons. Although they can’t help you avoiding all the malicious things from the Internet, at least they can help you and makes your surfing easier.
- Do not forget to do logout, delete cookies, etc - It’s not cool when you actually being hacked just because you’re playing on some random Internet Cafe and forgot doing the logout from your very own account(s).
- Stop over-relying on such Firewall and Anti Virus when you’re dealing with Web Application/Browsers vulnerabilities since those things won’t help you out and just gave you false secure feeling.
- *New* Be a little bit manual guy (Welcome back to the Flinestone era!), please use Lynx as your browser when it’s needed! Lawl!
